China National Petroleum Corporation (abbreviated as "PetroChina" or "PetroChina" in Chinese) is an important state-owned backbone enterprise.  It is a comprehensive international energy company focusing on oil and gas business, engineering and technical services, petroleum engineering construction, petroleum equipment manufacturing, financial services, new energy development, etc, It is one of the major oil and gas producers and suppliers in China. No. 4 on the Fortune Global 500 list in 2018. PetroChina ranked 47th in the 2018 Top 250 Global Energy Companies released by S&P Global Platts Energy. The "the Belt and Road" Top 100 Chinese Enterprises ranked No. 3. In December 2019, China National Petroleum Corporation was selected as one of the Model 100 Brands in 2019 China Brand Power Ceremony.  On May 13, 2020, PetroChina ranked 32nd in the 2020 Forbes Global 2000. On September 28, 2020, it was selected into the 2020 Top 500 Chinese Enterprises, ranking the third.

In May 2021, it will join the methane emission control alliance of China's oil and gas enterprises. No. 4 in the Fortune Global 500 list in 2021. 

On November 10, 2021, Rosneft and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of carbon management at the fourth meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee.
